Step 1: Assign the students the ‘Poetry Task’.
Step 2: Show them the Google Slides and explain how they will analyze 1 stanza each. (Can be done in groups if you have a large class).
Step 3: Students must come up with their own analysis and a question about their stanza. Teacher completes stanza 1 as an example.
Step 4: Students present their findings to the class as you go through the presentations together. The teacher facilitates while each student/group takes turns explaining the allocated stanza. Can be done virtually or in person. Give students time to answer the questions.
This is an engaging lesson that I used for my formal observation, just before I got promoted to Head of English at my school.
