I can’t quite believe my eyes. Here I am, standing at the edge of a fairytale. Banjski Potok is a secret whispered by the mountains. Its waters, a mesmerising turquoise, cascade into a series of natural pools, sculpted by time and nature into works of art. The sun, a playful artist, paints the scene with strokes of gold, illuminating the translucent depths. It’s a world apart, a hidden gem where the symphony of rushing water and birdsong is the only soundtrack. Every rock, every tree seems to hold a secret, inviting exploration. I feel a profound sense of peace as I gaze upon this untouched beauty, a reminder of nature’s raw and enduring power.

Located in the west of Serbia, Banjski Potok is a quiet gem that offers a unique and relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This beautiful area is home to a variety of natural wonders, including a stunning waterfall, crystal-clear streams, and lush greenery.

This is a rustic- off the beaten path- kind of addventure so it’s important to be prepared with supplies and expectations. This site is situated within an area called Ovčar Banja. Many blog posts refer to the area as a park- it’s not. Here’s a detailed guide to visiting Bankski Potok:
1. It’s a bit tricky to find
Reading the Google Reviews can send you on a wild goose chase and have you walking for kilometres.
This is the official Google Maps link but it’s actually incorrect. You need to drive until you get to this point:
Take note of what the road looks like for the final stretch- it’s just gravel and it is steep.

If the weather is dry, you can definitely drive a regular car with no problems. However, in rain and snow, you will need a vehicle with 4WD capability.
Another alternative is to find a parking spot at the bottom of the gravel hill and walk up. However, parking might be difficult in that area.
If you drive up the hill, this is the point where you can park. Make sure not to block the “roads” when parking. Here’s our rental car:

The path starts when you see this red sign to Banjski Potok:

2. It requires some physical effort
At the start of the path you will hear the water and you’ll soon realise that you need to begin a steep descent in order to get to the water. Although not difficult, the path can be slippery with small rocks so I advise going slowly.

Once you’re on the path, keep going down until you see the water- do not go left or right as there are no access points until you reach the point where you can see the water right under you.

Please note that this site is not wheelchair friendly.
3. Come prepared with everything you need
Following on from the previous point, due to the steep nature of the path, I strongly advise proper walking footwear (no flip flops or trainers with no grip).
If you have hiking sandals that can get wet, wear them because the rocks at the bottom are slippery and you’ll need something to protect your feet. Otherwise, water shoes will work just as well.

Remember that there are no facilities in the vicinity to buy food or restrooms so you need to bring whatever you need.
Important information:
- Bankski Potok is accessible to the public at any time. The water looks beautiful on a later summer’s afternoon.
- Bring your own water and food as there is no on-site cafe.
- Accessing this site involves driving on narrow roads particularly one that crosses a river. Any car can make it provided that the river level is low so make sure it hasn’t been raining recently. I would not advise this drive for new or nervous drivers.
- Admission is free.
WHAT ARE THE RATINGS ON PANDA’S RATING SCALE?
